Gaggle Apps

Safely providing today’s technology to meet students where they learn.

  Safety & Security

Safe and secure communication has been Gaggle’s core competency for over 12 years. We focus on one thing and we do it well so that educators can have the confidence to allow students to take advantage of current technology tools for communication, collaboration, and social learning.

  • CIPA: One of the important provisions of the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) states that schools must have technology measures in place to protect against visual depictions that are obscene or pornographic. Gaggle is the only email provider capable of providing real time image analysis to detect and prevent pornographic images displayed through email. As such, we believe that Gaggle provides the highest degree of CIPA compliancy of any email solution on the market.
  • COPPA: The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of children under 13 years old. COPPA requires that Gaggle provide parents or legal guardians with notice concerning what personal information is collected from children and how it is used or shared. Individual children are not allowed to sign up for the Gaggle services. The only way a child may obtain access to an account on the Gaggle service is through their school. Schools sign up for a group account on Gaggle and then create accounts for specific students. Please click here to see our complete COPPA statement.
  • Comprehensive Spam and Virus Protection: Protect your users with reliable message and file scanning. Virus definitions are updated every 15 minutes and multiple spam technologies are used.
  • Anti-Pornography Scanner: Ensure CIPA compliancy with our unique real-time image analysis that detects and prevents pornographic images in all of Gaggle's features, including email, blogs, and Digital Lockers. It scans not only embedded and attached images, but also images in attachments like Word documents and Powerpoints, and the first page of any URL a student mentions or posts.
  • Controlled Communication: Using the Gaggle system, you have complete control over who your students can correspond with, and who can correspond with your students. There are several options you can choose in deciding the access level you provide your students. For example some of the basic levels include class only, school only, district only, and Gaggle wide.
  • Content Filtering: All incoming and outgoing emails are scanned for inappropriate text and images, all attachments are checked as well. Each message and attachment is scanned by our Blocked Word List and our Anti-Pornography Scanner to ensure the content is appropriate and safe. Gaggle is one of the only systems to actually scan the content of attachments.
  • Secure Login: Access to the Gaggle system is available via HTTPS using industry standard SSL key encryption technologies. All data is stored on the system in a non-sequential numerical format and multiple database security points are set to prevent unwarranted access. In addition, the Gaggle system is protected by multiple tiered firewall devices at specific levels of the system.
  • Human Monitoring Service (HMS): Put monitoring of blocked messages and activities in Gaggle's hands, eliminating the need for teachers to review questionable emails. Multiple infractions and safety concerns are reported to your school or district.
